Alwan was born in Baghdad, Iraq, in 1975. He grew up during a time of great turmoil and violence in his country. In 1991, when Alwan was just 16 years old, the Gulf War broke out. Alwan and his family were forced to flee Iraq and seek refuge in Jordan.

In Jordan, Alwan completed his high school education and went on to study medicine at the University of Jordan. He graduated in 2001 and began working as a surgeon in a refugee camp. In 2004, Alwan was awarded a scholarship to study at the University of California, San Francisco. He completed his residency in surgery in 2009 and went on to become a faculty member at the university.

In 2014, Alwan made the difficult decision to leave his successful career in the United States and return to Iraq. He was driven by a desire to help his people rebuild their country and provide them with access to quality healthcare.

Since his return to Iraq, Alwan has been working as a surgeon at the Baghdad Teaching Hospital. He has also founded the Alwan Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides medical care to refugees and displaced people in Iraq.

Alwan's work in Iraq has been recognized by the international community. In 2016, he was named one of Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People in the World. He has also received the Nansen Refugee Award from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

Alwan's story is an inspiration to all who have been displaced by war or persecution. It is a story of perseverance, compassion, and a deep commitment to giving back to one's community.

Alwan's Return to Iraq

Alwan's decision to return to Iraq was a difficult one. He had built a successful career in the United States and had a comfortable life. But he felt a deep calling to help his people rebuild their country.

Alwan knew that returning to Iraq would be dangerous. The country was still embroiled in a civil war, and sectarian violence was rampant. But he was determined to make a difference.

Alwan returned to Iraq in 2014 and began working as a surgeon at the Baghdad Teaching Hospital. He quickly realized that the need for medical care in Iraq was immense. The country's health care system had been devastated by years of war and violence.

In addition to his work at the hospital, Alwan also founded the Alwan Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides medical care to refugees and displaced people in Iraq. The foundation provides a range of services, including primary care, surgery, and mental health care.
