The Early Years: A Path to Martial Arts

Tatsu Yamada was born in 1938 in Hiroshima, Japan. From a young age, he was captivated by the martial arts, particularly karate. In 1960, at the age of 22, Yamada traveled to the United States to continue his martial arts journey. He initially settled in Los Angeles, where he began teaching karate at a local YMCA. Yamada's exceptional skills and charismatic personality soon attracted a growing number of students. In 1964, he founded his own karate organization, Seido Karate, which would go on to become one of the most influential martial arts organizations in the world.

Seido Karate quickly gained popularity in the United States and around the world, and Yamada became known as one of the leading karate masters of his time.
